# How to access your Publication ID or API keys

Publication IDs and API keys are required for API functions and are available in your account. However, to enable API access and generate Publication IDs and API keys, you must first complete your account verification through [Stripe Identity Verification](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/12889886149655).

1.  From the left panel Dashboard, scroll down and click **Settings**.  
     
2.  Your publication settings will open in the left panel. Scroll down to **Workspace Settings** and select [**API**](https://app.beehiiv.com/settings/workspace/api).

    >
    > You must be a workspace Owner or Admin role to access your API keys.

### API Keys

3.  In the **API Keys** section, you can click **Create New API Key.**
    
    Additionally, you can access our [Developer Docs](https://developers.beehiiv.com/welcome/getting-started) to create API keys and learn more about their functionality.

4.  A modal will appear. Enter a name for the new API key, then click **Create New Key**.

5.  You’ll receive a quick success message stating ‘API Key created’. Another modal will open, displaying your new API key.
    
    > **Important**
    >
    > This is the only time you will see this API key, so be sure to copy and store it in a secure location.
    
    **Copy** the API key. After saving it safely, click **I’ve saved the key**.

6.  Your new API key will now be listed in your account. To the right of any key, click the **3-dots icon** to access **Edit** or **Delete** options as needed.

### Publication IDs

7.  Scrolling down past API Keys, you’ll find the **Publication ID** section which allows you to locate and copy the unique ID for each of your publications.  
      
    Click the **arrows icon** to select the publication for which you need the ID.

8.  Once selected, you’ll see the Publication ID displayed, compatible with either **API V1** or **API V2**. Click the **Copy** icon to save the ID for use in your API requests.

> **Tech Note**
>
> The Publication ID is essential for API requests involving specific publications, as it helps the API recognize which publication you're working with. Be sure to use this ID wherever required in your API calls to ensure accurate communication with your selected publication.
