--- title: "Integrating Discord with your beehiiv publication" updated: 2025-09-18 --- # Integrating Discord with your beehiiv publication > **Disclaimer** > > This guide is for publications using the [new beehiiv Website Builder](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/category/21554103469847-account-settings#29729771566743-new-website-builder). If your site was built with the [legacy builder](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/category/21554103469847-account-settings#12234427849367-website-builder-legacy), these steps won’t apply. Please migrate to the new builder to enable the Discord integration. [Discord](https://discord.com/) is available as a native integration in the [beehiiv App Marketplace](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/article/30302043994903-where-to-find-integrations), letting you connect your newsletter with your Discord server to engage subscribers directly via chat, audio, and video. With the Discord + beehiiv integration, you can: - Automatically add subscribers to your Discord server when they link their subscriber profile to their Discord account. - Assign beehiiv subscriber tiers to roles in Discord to gate access to channels. This guide walks you through setting up the integration and making the most of these features. --- ## How to set up the Discord integration 1. From your beehiiv account, go to **Settings > Integrations** and click **Connect** next to Discord. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35018856629399) 2. In the popup, click **Connect** again. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35018802330775) 3. Select your server and click the **Continue** button. If you haven’t created a Discord account or server yet, see: [How to create a Discord community and assign roles for your publication](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/article/35019020689047). ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35018856629911) 4. Leave both **Manage Roles** and **Send Invites** checked, then click **Authorize**. > **Tech Note** > > If you haven’t verified your Discord email address, you’ll need to do that before completing this step. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35018856630167) 5. After authorizing, map any beehiiv subscriber tiers to roles you’ve already created in Discord. If you haven’t created any roles yet, see: [How to create a Discord community and assign roles for your publication](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/article/35019020689047).   6. By default, subscribers who link their Discord account to their beehiiv subscriber profile will be automatically added to the connected Discord server.  Alternatively, you can also toggle off: **Automatically add new members**, which will send an email invitation to subscribers instead. A default server channel will need to be selected if this option is chosen.  ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35018802331671) 7. After making your selections, click the **Finish setup** button at the bottom of the popup.  > **Pro Tip** > > If a Discord role doesn’t appear in the dropdown, go to **Server Settings > Roles** in Discord and drag the **beehiiv** role above the others, then click **Save changes**. --- ## Automating Discord invites After setting up the Discord integration, you can use automations to send emails to new free or paid subscribers with a **Connect your Discord account** link. This link directs subscribers to their beehiiv profile, [where they can connect their Discord account following the steps in this article](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/article/35018620572055). ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35018856631191) You can fully customize the email in the Automation editor to match your publication’s voice and style. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35018856636823) --- ## Frequently asked questions about the beehiiv + Discord integration **How do I invite my existing subscribers to my Discord server?** If you send a newsletter to your existing subscribers, you can include a custom button with the {{integration\_connect\_url}} merge tag linked. This [merge tag will create a unique link](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/article/25846316892055-how-to-personalize-a-post-using-merge-tags) for each of your subscribers that directs them to the Connections section of their subscriber profile where they can connect to their Discord account. ![](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35018802332823) Alternatively, you can direct your users to [How to access a Discord server connected to beehiiv as a subscriber](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/article/35019020689047) for step-by-step instructions. **Why aren’t my Discord roles appearing in beehiiv?** If the beehiiv bot role is not listed above the other roles you want to map in Discord, those other roles won’t appear under Integrations > Discord in beehiiv. To fix this: 1. In Discord, right click your server icon and select **Server Settings > Roles**. 2. Drag the beehiiv role above the other roles. 3. Click the **Save Changes** button at the bottom. ![hoist.gif](https://beehiivhelp.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/35020712988695)
