# How to update the email username for a custom domain

Your email username is the first part of your sending address, it’s what appears before the @ symbol. When using a custom domain for your website, you can update this username at any time to customize how your emails appear to subscribers. 

Before you begin, make sure your [custom domain is already set up and verified](https://www.beehiiv.com/support/article/14492990172823) in beehiiv.

## Changing the email username for a custom domain 

1.  Click on **Settings** in the bottom left corner of your dashboard.  
     
2.  Your publication settings will open. If you have access to multiple publications, select the one you want to edit from the dropdown in the top left corner. Scroll down the left panel and click **Domains**.   
     
3.  Navigate to the **Email username** section, and click on the **3 dots menu**. From the dropdown, select **Edit Username.**

4.  In the popup, enter your new email username in the text field. Choose a clear, recognizable name that aligns with your brand or tone.  
    Here are some email user name examples:

-   hello@yourdomain.com
-   info@yourdomain.com
-   yourname@yourdomain.com  
     

5.  Click on the **Confirm** button to save your changes.
