How to add and manage authors for your newsletters

You can assign any team member in your publication as an author of your newsletters. You can also feature guest authors to highlight outside contributors. Showcasing guest authors is a great way to bring new perspectives to your publication, expand your reach, and engage new audiences. In this article, you’ll learn how to set up authors, assign them to posts, and ensure they receive credit for their work.

Authors on your publication website

Your published post authors will also appear on your publication website, either on the Author page or Authors page, when enabled.

There are three main ways authors can be featured on your site:

  • The Authors page and Authors block, which showcase all authors in your publication.
  • A dynamic Author page, which automatically displays posts attributed to a single author.

Guest authors are not listed on the Authors page and do not have their own Author page. For more guidance, check out this article on customizing how authors appear on your site.

How to edit the author(s) of a post

  1. From your beehiiv account, create a new post draft or select to edit one of your saved posts.

Pro Tip: While logged into your account, you can quickly start a new post by typing 'beehiiv.new' into your browser. If you manage multiple publications, the new post draft will open in whichever publication you currently have selected.
  2. The Post Builder opens on the Compose page. Add an author if none is listed by clicking Add author above the post title. The selected author’s name will then appear below the title.

To add more authors, click the + icon and select Add author. You can feature multiple team members, a checkmark will indicate selected names in the dropdown options.

By default, the author byline appears on both web and email posts. To hide it from emails, click the eye icon next to the author’s name, then toggle off Show in email. To remove an author, click the X next to their name.

Pro Tip: Working with freelancers? Assign them the contributor user role to give them access only to the tools they need to create and collaborate on content, nothing more.

Adding guest authors

  1. To add a guest author, click the + icon and select Add guest author. You can feature multiple guest authors, and a checkmark will indicate selected names in the dropdown options.

To remove an author, click the X next to their name on the post.

  2. To add a new guest author, click Create guest author. A popup will appear for you to add the details. Enter a Full name (required), add their Twitter handle (optional), and upload a Profile Picture (optional). Click Save Guest Author.

  3. You’ll be brought back to the Post Builder. Above the post title, click on Add authors, or click the + icon and select Add guest author. Your newly added name will show in your list, click on it.

Once selected, the name will show a checkmark and will be featured on the post. Changes will be automatically synced.

  4. You can also select Manage guest authors to be taken to your Guest Authors dashboard. From here, you can add new guest authors and edit or delete your existing guest authors.

When clicking the edit option, you can edit their Full name, Twitter handle, and Profile picture the same as you would when setting up your guest author.

Hover over their profile picture for options to upload a new picture or delete, and when your updates are complete, click on the Update guest button to save your selections.

  5. After adding an author to a post, you can choose whether their name appears in the email. Click either the eye or + icon next to their name and select Visibility from the dropdown.

  6. By default, the byline appears in both web and email posts. To hide it from emails, toggle off Show in email. Changes are saved automatically.
