How to manage your account as a newsletter subscriber
If you're subscribed to a newsletter built on beehiiv, you can manage your account directly from your subscriber profile. Whether you need to update your contact details, manage your preferences, handle a paid subscription, or request deletion of your data, you can do it without reaching out to anyone.
This article walks you through what's available in your profile.
Accessing your subscriber profile
Every newsletter email includes a footer link that reads Update your email preferences or unsubscribe here. Click on here to open your subscriber profile for that publication.
You can also visit the publication's website, log in, and access your profile from there.
What your profile looks like
Your profile may look different depending on the publication, and the options available to you will vary based on how it's set up.
Upon logging in, your subscriber profile may look like this:
Or, your subscriber profile may look like this:
Updating your name or email address
Find the account or general information section of your profile. From there you can update your name or email address, and, if the publication supports it, set up a password to switch from email-link login to password-based login.
Updating your preferences
If the publication has set up a preferences center, you'll see a preferences section in your profile where you can:
- Opt in or out of newsletter lists the publication has made available
- View and update any custom preferences the publication has configured, such as content topics or delivery frequency.
Changes are saved automatically.
Billing and paid subscriptions
If the publication offers paid tiers, you'll see a billing or current plan section in your profile. From here you can:
- View your current plan and upcoming payment details.
- Upgrade to a premium tier and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Update your payment method, which opens a secure Stripe portal.
To downgrade or cancel: Look for the Account actions area or your current plan section, then choose one of the following:
- Downgrade moves you to a lower or free tier at the end of your current billing period. Future charges stop, but you remain on the paid tier until the period ends.
- Unsubscribe from all communications cancels the subscription and stops emails immediately.
Referrals
If the publication has a referral program, you'll see a referrals section in your profile where you can:
- Copy your unique referral link to share with others.
- See the number of confirmed referrals you've earned.
- Track your progress toward reward tiers.
Unsubscribe from a publication
If you wish to unsubscribe from a publication, you can do so by clicking on the Unsubscribe from all communications button. This will cancel your subscription and stop all emails immediately.
If you did not sign up for an email you received, you can also click on I did not sign up for this to send a report to the beehiiv team. This will also ensure you are unsubscribed.
Deleting your subscription data
Data deletion rights apply to residents of certain regions, including the EU (GDPR), UK (UK GDPR), and California (CCPA). If you live in one of these areas and wish to request deletion of your personal data, you can submit a data deletion request using one of two methods (please allow up to 30 days for processing):
Self-service: Visit beehiiv's privacy and data request page and submit a deletion request using your email address. You'll receive an email with options to manage your subscription as well as removing your data entirely.
Email: Send a deletion request to [email protected].
