Manually migrating post content to beehiiv

If you've moved over to beehiiv from a platform that isn't supported in our Content Import tool, you can still bring your published content into beehiiv by recreating posts manually.

This is a simple copy-paste process, just create new posts in beehiiv and paste in your original content. Our post editor is user-friendly and preserves most formatting and styles, so you can quickly rebuild your content library and even backdate the posts. This article walks through how to manually migrate individual posts into beehiiv.

How to manually migrate post content in beehiiv

Pro Tip: For the smoothest experience, we recommend keeping two browser tabs open, one with your original post (from the platform you’re migrating from) and one with the beehiiv Post Builder. This makes it easy to copy and paste content in sections as you go.
  1. Copy the post content. Open the original post from your previous platform and copy the content you'd like to migrate.

  2. Create a new post in beehiiv. Open a new tab and log in to your beehiiv account. From the left panel, either click on Start writing, or navigate to Posts, and then click Start writing in the top right corner.

  3. Paste in the content (section by section). The Post Builder will open on the Compose page, where you can paste your content directly onto the canvas, ideally in chunks. This helps you work around elements that may not paste cleanly, such as Buttons, Embeds, Polls, or other interactive components. You can recreate those using beehiiv’s content blocks after pasting the surrounding text.

Simply type / on the canvas to browse the post options. You’ll also need to add authors, content tags, or a thumbnail for the post manually.

  4. Unselect the email audience. When done recreating the post content, move over to the Audience page of the Post Builder (up top). Under Email Audience, uncheck all options. This is so the post will only publish to the web and no email will be sent.

Under Web Audience, make sure one or more options is checked.

  5. Backdate the post. Move over to the Web page of the Post Builder (up top). Scroll down to Advanced settings and click the calendar icon. Select the publish date here to match the original post publication date.

Reminder: The timezone for your custom display date is determined by your browser settings.
  6. Publish the post. Move over to the Review page of the Post Builder (up top). Select to Publish now instead of scheduling the post. Click the Publish Now button to confirm.
