Understanding badges as a community member

Ever noticed a little label next to someone's name in your community and wondered what it means? That's a badge. Here's a quick rundown of what they are, how you get one, and where you'll spot them.

What are badges?

Badges are little labels that show up next to your name in a community, recognizing you for something: maybe you were one of the first to join, maybe you're a paid supporter, maybe you organize local meetups. Each one has a short description, so if you're ever curious what a badge means, just hover over it to see.

How do I get one?

Badges are awarded by community admins, not something you earn automatically or can request. If you've got one, an admin gave it to you on purpose.

Note: You won't get a notification when you receive a badge. The best way to find out is to check your name in the feed or comments, or look at your own profile.

Where will I see my badges?

  • On desktop, up to two of your badges show next to your name in the feed and in comments.
  • On mobile, one badge shows next to your name in those same places.
  • On your profile, your full set of badges always shows, no matter what device you're on.

If you have more than two badges, the ones you see in-line are always your most recently awarded. The rest are still yours, just visible on your profile instead.

Note: If you're a community admin or moderator, your Admin or Moderator label always takes the in-line spot next to your name instead of a badge. Any badges you've earned are still visible on your profile.
