How to add or update your beehiiv profile picture

In beehiiv, there are two types of profile pictures: one for publishers and one for subscribers. This article covers both, plus an option to use Gravatar for your comment avatar, if you wish. Simply click on a tab below to reveal the content related to your experience.

Reminder: Your profile picture is separate from your publication logo. To update your publication logo, go to Settings > General Info.

How to add a profile picture as a newsletter subscriber

Subscribers can upload their own profile picture, which appears in their subscription preferences and in the comments section on newsletter posts. If a profile picture hasn't been uploaded, beehiiv will display an auto-generated gradient avatar.

To update a subscriber profile picture as a reader:

    1. On the web version of any beehiiv newsletter post from a publication you are subscribed to, scroll to the comment section and click on your profile picture to upload a new pic.

    2. Or, open any beehiiv email newsletter from a publication you're subscribed to, then click on the Update your email preferences or unsubscribe here link in the footer of the post.

    3. Your subscriber preference center will open. Access the 3 dots menu in the Account profile section, then click Edit profile

    4. In the modal that opens, click on your profile picture or the icon to upload a new pic. You can also update your email and your name here. Once done, click on Save to apply your changes.

Tech Note: Supported formats are JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF, with a maximum file size of 5 mb. The recommended size for subscriber profile pictures is 100x100 px.

How to add a profile picture as a newsletter publisher

Your publisher profile picture is the avatar that appears alongside your name as the author of your newsletter posts and in the comments section of your publication.

    To access your profile settings:

    1. Click on the profile icon in the upper right corner of your account, then select Personal info.

    2. In the modal that opens, click on your current profile picture (or placeholder icon if you haven't added one yet) to upload a new image. You can also update your name or bio here.

    3. Select a new image file from your device. Changes are saved automatically.
Pro Tip: Use a square image for the best results. No minimum size is enforced, but a larger image will display more clearly across different screen sizes. We recommend 800x800 pixels, and supported formats are JPEG, PNG, WebP, and GIF.

    Gravatar and publisher comment avatars

Publishers who haven't uploaded a profile picture will automatically use their Gravatar as their comment avatar, as long as their Gravatar account uses the same email address as their beehiiv account.

Note: Gravatar is only available as a fallback for publisher accounts. Subscribers who haven't uploaded a profile picture will see an auto-generated gradient avatar instead.

For more information on using Gravatar with your beehiiv account, see: How to create a Gravatar profile photo for comments.

Displaying your Gmail profile picture in emails

If you send your newsletter using a Google Workspace custom domain, you can configure your Gmail profile picture to display in the emails you send to Gmail subscribers.

For setup instructions, see: How to use your Gmail profile pic to send your beehiiv publications.

Reminder: Gmail profile picture display requires a custom domain connected to a verified Google Workspace account. It only affects how your sender image appears for Gmail subscribers and uses your Gmail profile picture, not the beehiiv profile picture configured in this article.
