Plan: All Plans

This article covers how beehiiv plans work, how subscribers are counted, and how your plan tier is set. First, here are a few terms used throughout:

  • Plan type: The plan on your account. It decides which beehiiv features and limits you can use. beehiiv offers 4 plans: Free, Lite, Pro, and Enterprise.
  • Subscriber: Someone subscribed to a publication in your account (also called a 'contact' or 'email').
  • Active subscriber: A subscriber you're sending to who hasn't unsubscribed or been marked inactive.
  • Plan tier: The amount you pay on your plan type, set by your total active subscriber count.
  • Subscriber limit: The most active subscribers a plan type allows.

Plan types

beehiiv offers four plans: Free, Lite, Pro, and Enterprise. Each paid plan type has subscriber plan tiers, so your cost depends on your total number of active subscribers. Your plan type decides which features you get. Your plan tier decides what you pay for that plan.

As your list grows, you can move up to a higher plan tier at any time. When your subscriber count reaches your plan type's limit, you'll need to upgrade to the next plan type to keep growing. To see every plan tier and its price, visit the Pricing page.

Enterprise is built for teams that need custom limits, dedicated support, and Enterprise-only integrations. For more information or to speak to our sales team, visit our Enterprise page.

How subscribers are counted

Subscriber limits and plan tiers apply to your whole account, not to each publication. beehiiv adds up the active subscribers across all the publications in your workspace, and that total is compared with your plan's limit.

Example: You have two publications, one with 3,000 active subscribers and one with 2,000. Your account has 5,000 active subscribers.

Subscriber plan tiers

Each paid plan type has subscriber plan tiers, so your cost depends on how many active subscribers you have in total. Your plan type decides the features you get, and your plan tier decides what you pay for that plan.

When your subscriber count reaches your plan's limit, you'll need to upgrade to the next plan type to keep growing. To see the tiers and their prices, visit the Pricing page.

Yes, if you're billed monthly. You can pause your subscription for up to 30 days, starting at the end of your current billing cycle. While it's paused, your account has the features of the Free plan, including subscriber limits. When the pause ends, your paid plan and its features come back automatically.

To pause, follow the downgrade steps in How to change your beehiiv plan type and plan tier. The pause option appears to eligible accounts while you confirm the downgrade.

Tech Note: You can't pause a plan that's billed annually. To lower costs on an annual plan, you can downgrade to a lower plan tier or to the Free plan.
