Using Stripe with beehiiv: Account types explained
beehiiv partners with Stripe for identity verification, payment processing, and monetization payouts. Depending on how you use beehiiv — from paid subscriptions to running ads — you may interact with Stripe in several different ways.
This article explains each type of Stripe connection you might encounter and what it’s used for.
Stripe account overview chart

Stripe Identity Verification
To access certain beehiiv features — including using the Ad Network, Boosts Marketplace (both Monetize and Grow Boosts), direct sponsorships, or generating API keys — you must first complete Stripe Identity Verification. This step confirms your identity with Stripe and enables secure payments on your account.
For a list of accepted verification documents by country, refer to Stripe’s documentation.
Personal Stripe account (for paid subscriptions and digital products)
If you sell paid subscriptions or digital products on beehiiv, you’ll connect your own personal Stripe account.
- This account processes and receives all revenue from your paid subscribers and/or digital product sales.
- If you don’t already have a Stripe account, you can sign up here.
Accessing your beehiiv payments in Stripe:
After connecting Stripe to beehiiv, a new account will appear in your Stripe dashboard. To access it, click your account name in the top left corner of Stripe, then select the account associated with your paid subscriptions.
Stripe Express publication account (for monetization)
If you use beehiiv's Ad Network, Boosts, or direct sponsorships for monetization, you’ll automatically create a Stripe Express account for each publication.
Since each publication has its own dedicated Stripe Express account, you cannot use the same account across multiple publications. Your beehiiv Wallet connects to this account to handle all ad and sponsorship funds.
You can use the Wallet to:
- Deposit funds for Grow Boosts.
- Withdraw earnings from Monetize Boosts, the Ad Network, and direct sponsorships.
- Transfer balances between your earnings and Boost funds.
Stripe Express workspace billing account (for plan payments)
When you upgrade your beehiiv plan, payments are handled through a Stripe Express workspace billing account. This account is separate from your monetization and publication accounts and is used only for paying your beehiiv plan fees.
Integrating Stripe with beehiiv (for new subscribers)
You can also use Stripe as part of your subscriber acquisition strategy by connecting it to beehiiv via Zapier. This integration automatically adds new subscribers to beehiiv whenever a new customer is created in Stripe.
To implement this integration, you can:
- Use Zapier’s pre-built template for Stripe and beehiiv, or
- Follow the setup steps in our guide: Integrating Stripe with your beehiiv publication.
