How to tell which website builder version you’re using on beehiiv
On July 15, 2025, we launched a new website builder and made it available to all beehiiv accounts. Any accounts opened before this date still have access to the legacy website builder; accounts opened on or after July 15, 2025 use only the new website builder.
Quick website builder test
- From the left panel dashboard, click on Website.
- New Builder: If your account was created on or after July 15, 2025, you’ll see Builder only.
-
Legacy Builder: If your account was created before July 15, 2025, you’ll see both Builder and Builder (Legacy).
Accounts created on or after July 15, 2025 (new builder only)
All beehiiv accounts created on or after July 15, 2025 strictly have access to the new website builder. It includes a flexible drag-and-drop editor and a growing set of templates to help you build a high-performing site directly in beehiiv, whether you're a novice or have advanced skills.
- From the left panel dashboard, go to Website > Builder.
- If this is your first time opening the new builder, you’ll be guided through a short onboarding to start setting up your website.
Accounts created before July 15, 2025 (legacy + new builder)
All accounts created before July 15, 2025 can use both builders until they decide to publish in the new builder. If you built a site prior to this date, and did not participate in the website builder beta, you likely are using the legacy builder. Otherwise, if you participated in the website builder beta, your site may already be on the new builder.
- To open the legacy builder, go to Website > Builder (Legacy).
- To open the new builder, go to Website > Builder.
What you’ll see in legacy after publishing in the new builder
Once you publish your site in the new builder, returning to the legacy builder will display an in-app message directing you back to the new (v2) website builder.
Creating your site in the new website builder
Getting started with the new website builder is quick and easy with our simple onboarding process. While you cannot transfer or migrate your entire legacy website automatically, the new builder offers an intuitive drag-and-drop interface that makes creating the pages a breeze.
Once your theme has been set, get familiar with how the new builder works, and then customize your site as desired. Just remember that you must publish your new website builder site in order for it to become your live website.
Your legacy site (v1) stays live until you publish your new builder site (v2). This gives you the opportunity to test and customize the new version of your site, while keeping your current website live and accessible for your subscribers.
To check which version of your site is live while using the new website builder, click the Publish button in the top navbar. You’ll see which version is currently live (v1 or v2) and have options to revert if needed.
