Using the 1-click migration tool for a legacy site

Publications that originally built their website using the legacy Website Builder can use the 1-click migration tool to transfer their site to the new Website Builder.

This option is designed to quickly move your existing site into the new builder while preserving key settings and structure, giving you a starting point that you can review, customize, and publish.

If you’d prefer more control over how your site is rebuilt, you can also migrate your legacy site manually. Access the 1-click migration tool

To get started, log in to your account and go to the banner at the top of your dashboard, click New builder.

If you’ve already started setting up a site in the new Website Builder, you’ll be prompted to choose one of the following:

• Go to editor: Opens the new Website Builder where you can continue to customize your site.
• Re-migrate from legacy site: Restarts the migration using the 1-click migration tool.
  
  
  

If you choose to re-migrate your site, a notice will appear outlining what to expect.

To continue:

• Check the box next to I understand and want to proceed with migration.
• (Optional) Select Auto-publish after migration if you’re ready to make your site live immediately.
• Click Start migration.

Once migration is complete, the new Website Builder will open with your site ready to review, edit, or publish.

Try a different website template after migration

After migrating your legacy site, you may want to explore a different template or update your site’s design. To do this, go to the left panel icons menu and click on Settings, then select All settings. 

From the left panel, select Themes.

On the Themes page, click Switch Templates. 

You’ll be taken through the Website Builder onboarding flow again.

Set your site purpose and continue onboarding

The onboarding flow will begin with the Purpose of your site. Since your legacy site has already been migrated, the Migrate from legacy beehiiv site option will be preselected but unavailable.

Select one of the other options to continue:

• Link in bio: A dedicated landing page with links to your content.
• Simple blog: A streamlined site focused on posts or newsletters.
• News site: A full-featured content website.

Click Next to move through the remaining onboarding steps.
