Integrating Discord with your beehiiv publication

Discord is available as a native integration in the beehiiv App Marketplace, letting you connect your newsletter with your Discord server to engage subscribers directly via chat, audio, and video.

With the Discord + beehiiv integration, you can:

• Automatically add subscribers to your Discord server when they link their subscriber profile to their Discord account.
• Assign beehiiv subscriber tiers to roles in Discord to gate access to channels.

This guide walks you through setting up the integration and making the most of these features.

1. From your beehiiv account, go to Settings > Integrations and click Connect next to Discord.
   
   
   
2. In the popup, click Connect again.
   
   
   
3. Select your server and click the Continue button.

4. Leave both Manage Roles and Send Invites checked, then click Authorize.

5. After authorizing, map any beehiiv subscriber tiers to roles you’ve already created in Discord.

6. By default, subscribers who link their Discord account to their beehiiv subscriber profile will be automatically added to the connected Discord server. 
   
   Alternatively, you can also toggle off: Automatically add new members, which will send an email invitation to subscribers instead. A default server channel will need to be selected if this option is chosen. 
   
   
   

7. After making your selections, click the Finish setup button at the bottom of the popup. 

   Pro Tip: If a Discord role doesn’t appear in the dropdown, go to Server Settings > Roles in Discord and drag the beehiiv role above the others, then click Save changes.

After setting up the Discord integration, you can use automations to send emails to new free or paid subscribers with a Connect your Discord account link.

This link directs subscribers to their beehiiv profile, where they can connect their Discord account following the steps in this article.

You can fully customize the email in the Automation editor to match your publication’s voice and style.

How do I invite my existing subscribers to my Discord server?

If you send a newsletter to your existing subscribers, you can include a custom button with the {{integration_connect_url}} merge tag linked. This merge tag will create a unique link for each of your subscribers that directs them to the Connections section of their subscriber profile where they can connect to their Discord account.

Why aren’t my Discord roles appearing in beehiiv?
If the beehiiv bot role is not listed above the other roles you want to map in Discord, those other roles won’t appear under Integrations > Discord in beehiiv.

To fix this:
1. In Discord, right click your server icon and select Server Settings > Roles.
2. Drag the beehiiv role above the other roles.
3. Click the Save Changes button at the bottom.
