Using pages in the Website Builder
The beehiiv Website Builder includes several types of pages designed to make managing your site simple and flexible. Out of the box, based upon your website onboarding selections, you’ll have both default and dynamic pages that share your publication’s customizable template and design elements — helping you maintain a consistent, branded look across your entire site.
Dynamic pages automatically pull in content from your newsletter and update on their own, so your website always reflects your latest work without extra effort. Depending on your plan, you can also create and publish custom pages from scratch to further personalize your site and expand your content in any way you’d like.
Below is a quick overview of the different page types available in the Website Builder and how they work, as well as how to access, add, and enable pages on your site.
Types of pages in the Website Builder
| Custom page: | A fully custom page that you create from scratch for your website. |
| Default page: | A core page included with your template (e.g., Homepage, Subscribe, Tags). |
| Dynamic page: | A page that updates automatically based on your content (e.g., an author page showing all posts written by that author, or a tag page with all the articles included in that tag). |
Accessing, adding, and enabling pages
When working in the Website Builder, you’ll utilize 5 key areas: the top navbar, the left icons menu, the center canvas, the right-hand design panel, and the bottom preview toolbar.
The pages menu is contained within the icons menu on the left.
The pages that are included with your website are based upon your choices during your Website Builder onboarding. Your experience may vary.
If there are additional dynamic or default pages that you’d like to include in your site, simply click on the + Add page button to view your options.
Next to each page, you can open the 3 dots menu to expand your options. From here, you can duplicate or disable pages, switch to a different site template, and access other options like the page-specific version history.
Default page options
Default pages are the core pages included with your website template. They cover essential subscriber and content needs — such as subscribing, logging in, or browsing content — and can all be customized to match your site’s design.
Most templates include the following default pages:
- Home page: The primary landing page for your website.
- Subscribe page: A dedicated page for visitors to subscribe to your newsletter, noted by the /subscribe slug in your site URL.
- Upgrade page (paid plans): A dedicated page where visitors can view and purchase paid subscription options using a Pricing block. This page is accessible at /upgrade on your site.
- Archive page: A page that displays an archive of the past web versions of your newsletter posts. This page is accessible at /archive on your site.
- Authors page: A page that serves as a directory listing all authors in your publication, each linking to their individual Author page.
- Tags page: A page that serves as a directory listing all content tags used in your publication. Each tag links to its corresponding Tag page.
- Recommendations page: A page displaying all of your recommended publications and any active Boost recommendations.
- Login page: A page that allows subscribers to log in when your publication is set to private.
- Reset password page: A page that enables subscribers to reset their password, based on your publication security settings.
- Update password page: A page that allows subscribers to update their password, based on your publication security settings.
Dynamic page options
Dynamic pages pull content directly from your publication and update automatically. These pages are not built with static blocks. Instead, each dynamic page is powered by a specific dynamic block that determines what content is displayed.
For example, the Post page uses a Post block to render your newsletter content. To customize the appearance of a dynamic page, select its block on the canvas and use the design panel on the right to adjust styling.
The following dynamic pages are included with your template:
- Post page: Displays the web version of an individual newsletter post.
- Tag page: Displays all posts associated with a single content tag.
- Author page: Displays all posts attributed to a specific author.
- Survey page: Displays a selected survey from your publication.
- Product page (paid plans): Displays a specific digital product available for purchase on your website.
Custom page options
All users can create unlimited custom pages in the new Website Builder, but the number of published custom pages depends on your plan.
| Launch plan and free trials: | Upgrade required to publish custom pages. |
| Scale plan: | Can publish up to 15 custom pages. |
| Max plan: | Can publish up to 50 custom pages. |
Custom pages allow you to create entirely new site experiences tailored to your needs.
To create a custom page:
- Open the Pages menu from the left icons panel and scroll to Custom pages.
- Click + Add page.
- The Custom pages template library will open, where you can choose from a prebuilt template or start from scratch.
Available templates include:
- About: A page to introduce yourself or your business.
- Link in bio: Create a mobile-friendly link in bio page for social platforms.
-
Contact: Provide a way for visitors to get in touch.
- After selecting a template, click Set title and URL. Then, enter your page details, and click Create page.
- Your new page will appear under Custom pages, where you can search for other pages, or click the 3 dots menu for options to edit, duplicate, disable, or publish it as needed.
Unpublished or disabled pages
If you’re encountering a 404 error or an unexpected redirect on your website, it’s best to first confirm that the page has been both enabled and published.
- Disabled pages appear greyed out in the Pages list. If a page is disabled, attempting to view it on your live site will result in a 404 error.
-
Unpublished draft pages display a yellow indicator next to the page name. These pages must be published before they appear live.
If needed, you can also set up a custom 404 redirect by navigating to Website > Builder > Settings > Redirects.
