Featuring authors on your website

Notice: This article covers the Website Builder, which is continuously evolving based on customer feedback. Some details seen here may differ from what you see in-app while we update the KB.

Any team member in your publication can be listed as an author on your site, helping diversify your content and connect with new audiences.

The Website Builder includes three main ways to feature your authors:

  • The Authors page and Authors block, which showcase all authors in your publication.
  • A dynamic Author page, which automatically displays posts attributed to a single author.

You can customize your Author and Authors pages using the steps below. To learn how to assign authors to posts, see our guide on how to add and manage authors for your newsletters.

Helpful Website Builder terminology

  • Author: A member of your publication team who has been assigned as an author of one or more newsletter posts.
  • Authors block: An element you can add to any page to display specific authors. Clicking an author opens its author page.
  • Author page: A dynamic page that displays all posts attributed to a specific author.
  • Authors page:  A default page that lists all authors in your publication. Each author links to their individual author page.
  • Default page: A page included with your template (e.g., Homepage, Subscribe, Tags).
  • Dynamic page: A page that updates automatically based on your content (e.g., an author page showing all posts written by that author).
  • Guest author: A post author who is not a member of your publication team. Guest authors are not listed on the Authors page and do not have their own Author page.
Tech Note: If you delete a team member, they will also be removed as an author from all posts and web pages. This action cannot be undone.

Builder layout (where you’ll work)

When working in the Website Builder, you’ll utilize 5 key areas: the top navbar, the left icons menu, the center canvas, the right-hand design panel, and the bottom preview toolbar.

How to use an Authors block on your website

An Authors block can be added to any page on your website to feature specific authors of your choosing.

To add an Authors block

  1. Navigate to the page you wish to add the Authors block to.

  2. From the left panel, click the + icon.

  3. Under Synced, click the Authors block and drag it onto the page.

  4. The Authors selection model will pop up. You’ll see any authors you’ve already added, and then be able to add any additional authors or guest authors that you’ve created.

  5. Click on an author to add it to your page. To remove an author, simply click the x next to any added authors. When done making your selection, click the Save button.

  6. Once added, you can adjust your authors at any time by selecting the Authors block on your canvas to open the design panel on the right. Next to Data, click on Authors, and you’ll return to the authors modal.

Tech Note: If you have placeholder data toggled on, placeholder authors will appear in the selection modal. These placeholders are for design preview only and can be removed for visual adjustments. They will not appear on your live page once published.

Styling Author blocks

To customize the look of an Author block, select the block on the canvas and then click on Edit Card Styles in the right design panel.

In the card editor, click on any element to access a broad range of modifications, including background, gap, padding, orientation, and more.

Customizing an Authors page

When you first create your website in the builder, the Authors page will be added by default to your website.

To access the Authors page: Click on the Page icon in the left toolbar, then select Authors

Access the options by clicking on the 3 dots menu next to Authors.

Authors page options:

  • Duplicate: Creates a new custom page identical to the default Authors page.
  • Disable: Gives you the option to disable the page. If you choose to do so, anyone who visits your Authors page URL will be met with a 404. (You can set a redirect for 404s, if desired.)
  • Show version history: Opens version history for this page only, allowing you to restore an earlier version if needed.
  • Switch template: Lets you switch the template for the Authors page. Your color choices will remain the same, but the layout will update to match the new template.
  • Settings: Opens the Authors page settings in the design panel on the right.
  • Delete: Permanently removes the page. To hide it without deleting, use Disable instead.

Multiple design options: To update the design of the page, select the place in the canvas and then use the design panel on the right.

Customizing a dynamic Author page

Each author featured on the Authors page or in an Authors block is linked to an individual Author page that automatically displays all posts assigned to that author. As a dynamic page, it updates whenever new posts are published under that author.

You can customize the design of the Author page from the design panel on the right. Because this page is dynamic, customization options affect only its design, you can’t edit the content or data directly.
