How to add or update your post’s social links
Understanding social sharing links in beehiiv posts
In a typical beehiiv post, social links can appear in 3 locations:
- Top Right: Social sharing links for readers to share your post.
- Across the bottom: Additional sharing options across the bottom of web posts.
- Bottom (Footer): Links to your own social media accounts.
Social sharing links and social media links are different, each serves a distinct purpose.
Social sharing links appear at the top right corner of your published posts. These links enable readers to easily share your newsletter on the following platforms:
- X (Twitter)
- Threads
Websites built using the New Website Builder feature social sharing links and comment/like options across the bottom of web posts. These icons display dynamically as readers scroll.
At the bottom of each post, the footer includes icons that link to your social media accounts (if added). These links help readers connect with you and explore more about your publication.
You can add social links for:
- X (Twitter)
- YouTube
- TikTok
- Threads
- Discord
- Bluesky
While the footer is the default location for social links on most themes, the New Website Builder allows you to fully customize their placement. You can drag and drop a social links element anywhere on the page to fit your design preferences.
To add or update these links, go to Website > Builder > Settings > Socials. Once added, you can customize how these links appear in individual posts using the steps outlined below.
Additional ways to share published posts
You can also share your post from the Review page of the post flow. All users can quickly post to their connected social media accounts.
If you’re on a Max or Enterprise plan, you’ll also have access to the AI Social Helper tool. This lets you generate platform-specific social copy tailored to your preferred tone and purpose. For a step-by-step guide, check out: How to post your newsletter to social media.
How to add or remove social sharing links from the top of an email post
Social sharing links are in the email header of your newsletter, enabling readers to share the entire post. Sharing specific sections or portions of a post is not currently supported.
By default, this feature is enabled in the Email page settings of your post. If you prefer to disable social sharing icons for your email post, follow these steps:
- Open a new post draft or select to edit one of your saved posts or templates.
- The Post Builder will open on the Compose page. Navigate to the Email page.
- Go to the Email header buttons section and toggle Socials off.
How to add or remove social media links from the email footer and website
The social media icons that appear in your newsletter footer and on your website are controlled from the Socials settings in the Website Builder.
To add or remove social media links:
- From the left panel in your account, go to Website > Builder.
- The Website Builder will open with a preview of your site on the canvas. In the upper-right corner, click on the Settings icon.
- Your site settings will open on the General page. In the left column, under Features, click Socials.
- The Social Links options will appear in the right attributes panel. You can add or remove URLs for these platforms: Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Threads, Discord, and Bluesky.
Changes will be saved automatically. Any social links that are removed or left empty will be excluded from the footer of your emailed newsletter and will not appear when adding a Social element to your website.
The Settings tab will open on Pixels by default — this is for tracking purposes and is unrelated to social links. Make sure to select Social Links from the options below Pixels to manage your footer icons.
