Triggers and actions: Using the Wait Until node
The Wait Until node lets you control exactly when a step in your automation runs — by specifying certain days of the week and times of day. This is especially useful for sending automation emails at times that align with your audience’s engagement habits.
For example, you could delay a message until Wednesday at 5:00 am CT, ensuring subscribers receive it at a consistent and optimized time.
You can also combine Wait Until with other delay steps. Any time-based delay that comes after a Wait Until node in a workflow will stack on top of it. For instance, if you set a Wait Until step for 5:00 am CT and the next message has a 10-minute delay, it will send at 5:10 am CT.
How to set up a Wait Until node in an automation
- From your account dashboard, go to Audience > Automations, then either create a new automation or open an existing workflow.
- On the workflow canvas, locate the Actions panel on the left. If it's collapsed, click the arrow icon to expand it.
Under Delays, select Wait Until, then drag and place it beneath a trigger or another step in the workflow. Alternatively, you can also click on any + sign in the workflow and choose Wait Until from the dropdown.
- After placing the node, click the Configure step icon in the top-right corner of the Wait Until node.
- In the left panel that opens, select the Day of week, Time of day, and Timezone that you would like subscribers to wait until.
Day of week
- Any day of the week: Runs at the selected time on any day the subscriber qualifies. (For example, at 5:00 am every day.)
- Specific day(s): Runs only on the selected day(s) at the specified time. (For example, at 5:00 am every Wednesday.)
Time of day
- Time: Set the hour and minute when the step should run.
Timezone
- Default timezone: Uses the timezone set in your account settings.
- Timezone of the subscriber: Uses the subscriber’s local timezone.
-
Specific timezone: This will allow you to manually select one from the dropdown.
- Review your settings, then click Save in the bottom-right corner of the panel to confirm.
- Once saved, the Wait Until node will appear grey in your workflow until it is activated.
- When you are ready to activate the Wait Until node, click the Configure step icon found in the right corner of the node.
- At the top of the left panel, toggle on Activate so it turns pink, then click Confirm in the pop-up window.
- Once activated, the Wait Until node will be colored on the workflow canvas, indicating it’s live. Click Save in the bottom-right corner of the panel to finalize.
