How to edit custom fields in subscriber profiles
Custom fields enable you to add subscriber information, allowing you to personalize your newsletter content. This specified information in the custom fields enhances your segmentation capabilities and lets you provide a bespoke experience for your audience.
In this article, you’ll learn how to manually edit information in your subscribers' profiles using custom fields you've already created.

- If you created a survey form through beehiiv and attached questions to custom fields, those fields will automatically populate here in the subscriber profile.

- You can use custom fields to segment your audience for insights and personalization.
- Aside from the instructions below, you can also update custom fields via the update subscription node. You can automate the updates based on user actions, manage subscriber status according to engagement levels, or identify users from specific sources.
- Custom fields can be attached to subscriber preferences, that you can manually add to segments. For example, a subscriber who indicates they wish to receive a weekly newsletter cadence can then be added to a segment that sends only weekly updates.
How to edit custom fields in a subscriber profile
Before beginning, ensure you have created custom fields and have gathered some information from your subscribers.
- From the left panel Dashboard, go to Audience > Subscribers.

Select the subscriber you wish to add a custom field to. Click the subscriber’s email address to open their Subscriber profile.
- In their Subscriber profile, you’ll find subscriber details in a series of dropdown menus. Click into the Custom Fields options and you’ll see the custom fields that you have already created in the dropdown list.
- Navigate to the custom field that you want to modify and click the 3 dots menu in the corner of the field box. Depending on your number of custom fields, you may need to scroll down to display all of the fields that have been created.
Click Edit to modify the custom field you selected. Modifying this field will only modify the subscriber whose profile you are currently in.
- Enter the applicable data and click Save.
Tech Note: If you wish to delete a custom field completely, go to Audience > Subscribers > Custom fields tab. Click the 3 dots menu next to the field you want to remove. This action will delete the custom field and all associated values for all subscribers.
