Using the beehiiv the Ad Network

You can monetize your beehiiv publication with the Ad Network by featuring ads from top brands in your newsletter. Each week, you’ll receive available opportunities that you can run in your newsletter, then a few days after the ad runs, you’ll receive a detailed performance report letting you know when to look out for the automated payouts from it.

This article will go over the entire ad process, covering how to accept an ad, place it in a post, send it out, and monitor its performance.

How weekly ad opportunities work

Once you’ve set up your ad preferences, every Sunday you’ll receive a weekly email with new ad opportunities from brands looking to reach audiences like yours. The email includes advertiser details, estimated payouts, and the number of available placements.

You can also browse opportunities directly in your account. Go to Monetize > Ads > Inbox to view and manage the current week’s ads.

Reviewing and accepting an ad

1. In the Sunday email, click on the Review button for an ad you’re interested in. You’ll be taken to that ad in your beehiiv account.
   
   Or from your account, go to Monetize > Ads > Inbox, then select the New tab to see your available ads. Click the Set up & accept button to choose an ad.
   
   
   
2. Select the creative you want to run. You’ll typically see multiple versions (for example, with logos or without logos). We’ll also offer a Recommended version that statistically should perform best.
   
   For each ad opportunity you can:

• View the ad company, model, estimated payout, available run dates, and when it expires.
• See the dollar amount of the ad model type, either CPM or CPC, depending on what is offered.

  • CPM (cost per mille) is a payment method where you earn based on the number of unique opens per send for an advertiser. For example, with a $5 CPM, you’ll earn $5 for every 1,000 unique opens you deliver in a single send. You will only receive earnings from unique opens in email sends.

  • CPC (cost per click) is based on the number of unique clicks that the sponsored links in your newsletter send receive. For example, if the CPC for a campaign is $2 and you include an ad in your newsletter that receives 100 verified unique clicks, your payout would be 100 x $2, or $200. You will only receive earnings from clicks in email sends.
     

3. Make your design selection, then click on Next.
   
   
   
4. Choose the date you want to run the ad on the calendar, then click Accept. You can also check the box next to Show me more ads from advertisers like this.

Managing your ads inbox

After you accept an ad, you’ll see it alongside the rest of the week’s opportunities in your account at Monetize > Ads > Inbox.

 

From the different tabs in your inbox, you can:

• New: View the ad company, model, estimated payout, available run dates, and when it expires. Click the Set up & accept button to choose an ad.
• Accepted: View the ad company, status, model, estimated payout, and send by date of the ads you have accepted. Click the Add to post button to add it to a new or existing post.
• Published: View the ad company, status, model, post title, and date sent of the ads you have already run. Click the View report button to see more details. (Reports are created 96 hours after the ad was sent.)
• Rejected: View the ad company, status, model, estimated payouts, and available dates of the ads you have passed on.
• Expired: View the ad company, status, model, estimated payouts, and available dates of the ads you were offered that have expired.
• Missed: View the ad company, status, model, estimated payouts, and send by date of the ads you were offered and have missed.

Inserting accepted ads into a post

Ads that you have accepted and are available will be visible in the post editor upon opening it (after selecting a template).

1. Open a post and either drag the accepted ad into your canvas, or start typing “/advertisement” to bring it up. Click on Advertisement.
   
   
   
2. You’ll find the specific ads you’ve previously accepted as options; choose one from the list.
   
   
   
3. Once an ad is selected, you’ll see it in your post.
   
   
   
4. When your post is ready, schedule or publish it on the date the ad is set to run.

Important things to remember after placing an ad in your post 

• Editing Restrictions: Ads cannot be edited once placed. However, you can add custom content above or below the ad block and adjust the placement of the ad logo.
   
• Double check the send date: Be sure to schedule your post for the selected ad date to ensure you receive payment for the campaign.
   
• Track clicks and payouts: There is a 72-hour window for click tracking, then a 24-hour gap prior to a report being generated. Once this period ends, you’ll receive an email with your report confirming your total payout. Please note that payouts are processed on the 20th of each month for ads from the previous month. For example, ads from July will be paid out on August 20th.

Track performance and view reports

After your newsletter is sent, beehiiv automatically tracks ad performance. About 96 hours later, a detailed performance report will be available in your account. You’ll see the advertiser name, post title, sent date, ad status, earnings amount, and payment date.

To view past and current reports, go to Monetize > Ads > Reports. From any report listed, click the 3 dots icon and select View Report to read the details, share it, or download it.

See your Ad Network overview

The Ad Network overview shows a snapshot of your new opportunities, earnings, and upcoming accepted ads, all in one place. To access it, go to Monetize > Ads > Overview.

From the overview, you can:

Inbox: See the number of current ad opportunities. Click the Review button to be brought to your Ads Inbox.  

This month's earnings: View your current earnings for the month. 

Last month's earnings: View the amount you earned last month.
Earnings of all time: See your total earnings for all time.

Upcoming accepted ads: View any upcoming ads that have been accepted. 

New opportunities: See other ad opportunities that are available to you. To select one, click Set up & accept.
