Migrating your legacy website to the new builder (Part 2): Adding custom pages and featuring posts
This article covers Part 2 of the process of migrating a legacy website to the new Website Builder, and builds on the basics from Part 1. The new Website Builder offers greater control and flexibility so you can easily create a brand new website or mimic the look and style of your current publication site.
We recommend reading Part 1 first, where you’ll find step-by-step migration instructions that are covered in the first part of the video.
The second half of the video guide (and this article) covers recreating any custom pages and featured posts in your new publication site.

How to add custom pages to your global navbar or footer
-
From the new Website Builder, navigate to any page where you have the navbar or footer enabled. Click on the navbar or footer, then click on the Edit Navbar button or Edit Footer button in the Design panel on the right.
Pro Tip: You can also edit the navbar or footer by double clicking on the element. - Once in the editor, you can add the custom pages or external links by clicking on any navbar Item to edit it. This will bring up your link options in the Design panel on the right.
- Add the URL for any custom page you’d like to add to the navbar to the Design panel. Changes are automatically saved.
How to add featured posts to your new website
While ‘featured posts’ are not specifically available in the new Website Builder experience, you can easily recreate something similar to align with your legacy website.
- When editing or inserting a post component, in the Post Selection modal, select the Post Type from the dropdown options. To feature or choose posts to highlight, select Free Selection.
- Once selected, manually choose which posts you want to feature by clicking on each post.
-
When done, click on the Save button at the bottom-right..
Configuring your website settings
- From the new Website Builder, click on the Settings icon in the lefthand panel, then select All settings.
- Under the Site Settings options, you’ll see all the same options that you had available for your legacy site, plus additional options to help you customize your site even further.
Publishing your new website
Your new site isn’t live until you publish. Here’s how to do it:
- In the Website Builder, click Publish (top-right).
- Choose what to publish: All Pages or select specific pages.
- Click Publish to live site.
Publishing makes the new site live and replaces your legacy site, and this change can’t be undone.
If you don’t select pages (or All Pages), only the page currently open in the builder will be published. For more options and details, see how to publish your website.
