Qualifications and common questions
How do I join the Ad Network?
The Ad Network is available to anyone on the Scale plan or above who is actively sending on beehiiv. Once eligible, you'll automatically start seeing ad offers in your Ad Network dashboard — no action needed on your end.
When should I expect to receive ad offers?
Ad offers are surfaced in real time based on your publication's content, audience, and performance. You can browse up to 15 personalized offers at any time in your Offers dashboard, with the top 3 highlighted as recommended based on your brand and audience. Your offer feed refreshes automatically as you reserve or publish ads.
Will I be able to pick and choose the ads I want to include?
Absolutely. You always have full control over which offers you run. Browse your available offers, reserve the ones that interest you, and add them to your newsletter when you're ready. You can also downvote offers you're not interested in — this helps us improve the relevance of future offers you see.
Can I run multiple ads in the same post?
Yes. You can include up to 1 primary (with logo) and 2 secondary (no logo) ads per post.
How much money can I earn from the Ad Network?
beehiiv ad campaign payouts are based on CPM (cost per mille) or CPC (cost per click). CPM pays you based on the number of unique opens per send. For example, a $5 CPM means you earn $5 for every 1,000 unique opens.
CPC pays based on verified unique clicks on the sponsored link. For example, a $2 CPC with 100 verified clicks would earn you $200. Each offer will display an estimated payout before you reserve it.
What constitutes a verified unique click?
When a publisher runs an ad from the beehiiv Ad Network, we run those clicks through an additional verification process to ensure advertisers are only paying for high-quality clicks. This process may identify and filter out bot traffic, duplicate clicks, or users who immediately bounce from the landing page. As a result, your verified click count may be lower than your raw post metrics.
How will I know if an ad is performing well?
You'll receive a performance recap approximately 96 hours after your send, including clicks, opens, and earnings. You can also view detailed analytics and payout estimates for every published ad in the Published Offers tab of your dashboard. Over time, running more ads helps you identify which advertisers and formats resonate best with your audience.
Is the estimated payout a guaranteed amount?
No — the estimated payout is based on your newsletter's historical performance and prior campaign data. Actual earnings depend on how your audience engages with the ad. Some ads will perform better than others, and your final payout reflects verified performance after the ad is sent.
How many ads can I reserve at once?
You can reserve up to 5 ad offers at a time. This is designed to keep inventory available for all publishers and ensure offers don't get locked up. Reserved offers that aren't published within the deadline will expire and become available to other publishers.
What happens if I don't run a reserved ad before it expires?
If your reserved ad expires before you publish it, the offer is released back into the network for other publishers. Consistently missing deadlines may affect the quality and quantity of offers you see in the future. You'll receive reminder notifications before a reserved offer expires, and if the offer is still available after expiring, we'll let you know so you can reserve it again.
What if I don't like the offers I've received?
You can downvote any offer to signal to our model that it's not a good fit for you. After downvoting, you'll be prompted to share brief feedback (e.g., not relevant, price too low, wrong format) — this helps us improve the relevance of your future offers. You're never required to run any ad.
What happens if an ad is sent a day or two late, early, or delayed due to timezone issues?
As long as the ad is sent within the active campaign window and your reservation hasn't expired, your ad will still be tracked and paid accordingly. Any unique clicks or opens within 72 hours of your send date count toward your earnings.
How does beehiiv ensure high-quality ads?
All advertisers are vetted by our team before any campaigns go live. Our model is also designed to match offers to publishers based on content relevance, audience fit, and performance history — so the ads shown to you should align with what your readers care about.
How are ads tracked for performance?
Each ad placement is tracked for impressions, unique opens, and verified clicks using our reporting system. You can view detailed analytics and payout estimates for every offer in your dashboard. Performance is evaluated 72 hours after your send date.
How many ad offers am I guaranteed?
Eligible publishers will see up to 15 personalized offers at any given time, refreshed in real time as you engage with the network. The volume and quality of offers you see is influenced by your publication's performance, content relevance, and reliability as a publisher. Publishers who consistently run ads and meet deadlines will receive higher-quality, higher-volume opportunities over time.
What makes beehiiv suitable for large publishers?
Large publishers benefit from a real-time marketplace with a broad range of advertisers, intelligent offer matching, and scalable tools that allow seamless integration of multiple campaigns. As you build a track record in the network, you'll gain access to top-tier advertisers and more prominent offer placement.
Ad placement and setup info
Can I change the placement of the advertisement logo in my post?
Yes. While the logo appears in the newsletter header by default, you can adjust this directly in the editor using the customization icon.
How far in advance can I schedule an ad?
Once you reserve or add an ad to a post, you have 120 hours to send it before the reservation expires. If you add the ad inline in the editor, you have 5 days. Plan your send schedule accordingly — you cannot hold an offer beyond that window.
What if I don't like the advertiser — do I need to run it?
No. You always have full discretion. If an offer isn't the right fit, simply downvote it or ignore it. Downvoting sends a signal to our model to improve the relevance of future offers shown to you.
How do I get included in an ad opportunity?
Our model automatically surfaces relevant offers to your dashboard based on your newsletter's content, audience profile, and performance history. There's nothing you need to do — eligible offers will appear in your Offers page as they become available.
What are the different versions of the ad presented?
Advertisers typically provide multiple creative versions of their ad. When you reserve or add an offer, you can select the version that best matches your audience and newsletter tone.
Can I run the same ad more than once?
Each offer can be run once. After running an ad, you won't see another offer from that same advertiser for at least 7 days. If it performed well, a new offer from that advertiser may appear again after that window.
What should I do if I need to change the send date for a reserved ad?
You can add a reserved ad to any post and schedule it for any send date within your reservation window. If your reservation expires before you send, the offer is released back to the network. If the offer is still available, you can reserve it again. Note that once the original reservation window closes, you cannot extend it.
Is it possible to adjust the creative in an Ad Network offer?
Not currently. Editing the copy, creative, or format of an ad offer isn't available at this time. You can choose between the creative versions the advertiser has provided.
Where can I see the performance of my ads?
All ad analytics are available in the Reports tab of your Ads dashboard. You'll also receive a performance recap email approximately 96 hours after your send, with a breakdown of clicks, opens, and earnings.
How do I cancel a Claimed ad?
You can cancel a reserved offer from your Claimed Offers tab at any time before the deadline. Once cancelled, the offer is released back to the network and your reservation slot opens up. Note that if the reservation window has already passed, no action is needed — the offer expires automatically.
Understanding Your Payment Process with the Ad Network
How do payments work for the Ad Network?
We track eligible unique clicks and opens within the first 72 hours after your send. Approximately 96 hours after sending, you'll receive a performance report with a full breakdown of clicks, opens, earnings, and payment status. Payouts are processed on the 20th of each month for the prior month's earnings.
How do I receive payment from my ad placement?
Payments are processed through Stripe, which requires a Stripe Identity Verification. Payouts are sent on the 20th of each month for the previous month's ad revenue.
Do I have to use Stripe to get paid?
Yes. A Stripe Express account is required to run ads and receive payouts through the Ad Network.
How do I set up my payment account in beehiiv?
Go to Payment Accounts in your account settings to set up your Stripe Express account. This is also where you manage Boosts payouts.
Why do I need to connect my Stripe Express account?
Stripe Express is used to transfer your earnings directly into your beehiiv wallet on the 20th of each month. You can withdraw funds from your wallet at any time with no fees or transfer costs.
Where can I find a breakdown of all payments for ads?
All campaign metrics and payout details are available in the Ads dashboard. You can also view individual offer reports from the Published Offers tab.
What's the difference between getting paid via CPM vs CPC?
CPM (cost per mille) pays based on unique opens: you earn a set amount per 1,000 unique opens. For example, a $5 CPM earns you $5 for every 1,000 unique opens.
CPC (cost per click) pays based on verified unique clicks. For example, a $2 CPC with 100 verified clicks would earn you $200.
Will I still receive both CPC and CPM opportunities?
Yes. You'll continue to receive both CPC and CPM offers. The mix of offer types you see is determined by our model based on your publication's performance and audience profile.
Does anything change about when I get paid?
No. Payouts continue on the 20th of the following month for all ad earnings from the prior month.
Can I choose between CPM and CPC for individual offers?
Not currently. The payout model for each offer is set by the advertiser. You'll be able to see whether an offer is CPC or CPM before you reserve it.
Will I be able to see performance metrics for CPM ads?
Yes. Performance reports for CPM ads work the same way as CPC ads — you'll receive a full recap approximately 96 hours after your send.
Why is my CPM offer lower than a CPC rate?
CPM pays based on unique opens rather than clicks, which provides more predictable earnings regardless of click behavior. CPC rates can appear higher per unit but depend entirely on reader interaction. Both models can be competitive depending on your audience's engagement patterns.
Additional details about the Ad Network
Do I have to provide any ad reporting to beehiiv?
No. beehiiv handles all reporting automatically. We track sponsored link clicks and calculate payouts using our own reporting tools. You can view your performance metrics in the Ads dashboard at any time.
Can I work with my own advertisers if I am in the Ad Network?
Yes. The beehiiv Ad Network is non-exclusive. You can run Ad Network offers alongside your own direct advertiser relationships.
Why is the reporting for my ad placements different from what I see in my post analytics?
Ad reporting runs through additional verification layers to remove bot traffic and fraudulent clicks. This is why your ad metrics may differ from the raw post-level analytics. The verified numbers are what determine your payout.
What types of publishers does the beehiiv Ad Network work best for?
The Ad Network is a strong fit for:
- Publishers who want to monetize through ads without managing an in-house ad sales operation
- Publishers with open ad slots or remnant inventory alongside direct advertisers
- Publishers who need to fill last-minute gaps when a direct deal falls through
beehiiv acts as your external ad sales team — handling advertiser sourcing, campaign management, and reporting end to end.
