How to Migrate From Constant Contact to beehiiv
Give Your Newsletter an Upgrade

Last updated: March 2026
If you're planning to migrate from Constant Contact to beehiiv, this guide walks you through the full process — cleaning your list, exporting contacts, preparing your CSV, and importing into beehiiv without losing data or hurting deliverability.
The switch takes less time than you think, and the upside is significant.
How to Migrate From Constant Contact to beehiiv
Step 1: Clean Your Contact List
Before you export anything, clean your Constant Contact list. Importing disengaged contacts hurts your sender reputation and deliverability from day one on beehiiv.
The very first step is to clean your data by removing inactive contacts – those who rarely open your email.
This can potentially impact the deliverability of your emails.
So, how do you clean your data?
The simplest way is to view your campaign reports and remove all bounces and inactive users. We’ll show you how to do this, but if you want a more detailed approach, Constant Contact has a comprehensive process.
Here’s the fast version:
Click “Reporting” at the top of the Constant Contact menu.

Once you’re on the Reporting page, select Emails.

A list of all the campaigns you’ve sent or posted will appear, along with data on how many opens, clicks, bounces, and unsubscribes each campaign generated. Click on any of these data points, and you can see the individuals who carried out that specific action.
Now you know who your bounces and non-readers are, so you can remove them from your list.

Go to Contacts in the main menu. You will see a list of all your contacts, with a checkbox next to their name.
Simply check off the names you want to remove, and click on Actions right above the email list. From the drop-down menu, select either Delete or Remove From List.

If you choose Remove from list, you will still have these contacts in your records, but they will not receive emails that you send to your list. If you choose Delete, you will permanently delete the contacts from your record.
After you’ve cleaned your list, it is time to export.
Why Cleaning Your List Before Migrating Matters
Importing inactive subscribers increases your bounce rate and spam complaint rate on your new platform. beehiiv's deliverability tools work best with an engaged list. Cleaning before migration protects sender reputation, avoids importing disengaged contacts who will never open, and helps your first sends on beehiiv land in the inbox.
If you are looking to export your contacts, there are two ways to export your contacts into beehiiv.
Step 2: Export Your Contacts From Constant Contact
Go back to your Contact list, and click on the square at the top left of the list. This will automatically check the boxes of everyone on your list. If you prefer, you can go through and check individuals instead.

Next, click Actions, and select “Export” from the dropdown list. A box will open up asking you to check the boxes for the fields you want to save.
Be sure to include any special contact information you may have gleaned, such as phone numbers or a physical address, as well as tags or other info you want to keep. When you are ready, click the “Export” button on the bottom right.

Alternatively, you can click the three dots at the top right of the Contacts page and select Export All Contacts from the dropdown menu.

At this point, Constant Contact will send a CSV file to the email you have on record.
Step 3: Prepare Your CSV for beehiiv
When you receive it, import it into Excel or Google Sheets. You want to make sure all the columns and fields are filled properly. This extra step can save you from losing valuable contacts and spare you hours of frustration later on.
Sometimes a name can end up in the email column, for example. Sometimes you need to replace a dot with a dash, or manually relocate part of a physical address. A quick scan of your data gives you a chance to catch these issues and fix them with a simple cut and paste.
When you’re happy with the accuracy of your data, export it again as a new CSV file. It’s not a bad idea to save it to your desktop before you move to beehiiv. You can easily find the file there, and delete it when you’re done migrating.
Before importing to beehiiv, check your CSV for:
Correct email formatting (no spaces, no typos)
Invalid or role-based emails removed (info@, admin@)
Standardized date formats if used
Consistent tag naming across rows
Step 4: Import Subscribers Into beehiiv
Next, go to your dashboard in beehiiv. Under Audience, select “Subscribers.”

You’ll see a big button that says “Import Subscribers.” Click on it, and look for the button that says, “Start New Import.” You know where to click.

At this point, you could copy and paste emails if you wanted to. But you’ve already got a CSV, which is much faster if you have more than just a few people on your list.
So go ahead and check the box for “Upload a CSV file,” click “Begin Import,” and watch your list magically grow before your very eyes!

FAQs About Migrating From Constant Contact to beehiiv
Can I migrate from Constant Contact to beehiiv without losing data?
Yes. You can export your contacts from Constant Contact as a CSV file, clean and map your fields correctly, and import directly into beehiiv. Email addresses, names, tags, and custom fields all transfer over. Subscribers do not need to re-confirm their subscription when you migrate.
Do I need to notify subscribers when I switch platforms?
In most cases, no. If you are maintaining the same sending frequency and content expectations, subscribers don't need to take any action. However, sending a short welcome or reintroduction email after your migration is good practice — it resets expectations and re-engages your list on the new platform.
Will switching platforms affect my deliverability?
It can if done incorrectly. Importing a large, uncleaned list and sending immediately away may impact inbox placement. Cleaning your list before importing, warming up your sending volume gradually, and ensuring your domain is authenticated in beehiiv protects deliverability during the transition.
